Sad but true, appearance is the last thing on your prosthetist's mind. And there is a reason: it's really not in his skill set. He did his job — it was about getting you walking again. And if he did it right, you do, and are comfortable and able to do most of the things you did before your amputation or injury. But that pipe you were walking on needed a lot more than a foam cover, and you waited for more. At least you can cover it with pants, right?
You don't need to settle unless you want to. And to be honest, most people do. But I have also found that you can't treat appearance as an afterthought and expect it to work. And I have also found many patients settle for more than just a loss of appearance. And it amazes me what they accept. I see it in my clinic every day. And I am glad that you don't have to be one of them, because Genesis can make something more like what you thought you were going to get. From start to finish. From casting to the final brush stroke.

Quality of Design is Maintained Because I Make ALL of My Own "Stuff"
I don't refinish other people's work. Why? Three reasons. First, a prosthesis only finishes well if it has been well planned. Every piece I've ever refinished for someone else was poorly planned, without exception, which, second, makes double work for me, and third, puts me in the uncomfortable position of knocking someone else's work, either directly or indirectly. It makes for mad patients and mad prosthetists (at me), who in their own right — and in your prosthetist's defense — may have done their job correctly and well.
Remember, a prosthetist is trained to get you to walk, not to make your prosthesis look nice. It's easier for me to finish a leg as part of the whole package, so a cosmetic finish can often be a standard step. But there are tiers of service upgrades that may be possible, including: Customized one-of-a-kind covers that can be created by David Van Auker to work with a below knee prosthesis as part of a total system, not just an afterthought.
